Mars Crowned the Best Multinational Workplace in Europe

MCLEAN, VA (June 8, 2017) – Mars, Incorporated has been named Best Multinational Workplace in Europe for the second year in a row and received a special award acknowledging its community involvement initiatives during the Great Place To Work® 2017 awards ceremony in Paris on Thursday, June 8, 2017.

This achievement recognizes Mars’ commitment to its Associates and the dedication, passion and creativity they bring to work every day. Mars is convinced that the performance of the company depends on its employees’ well-being. The company is dedicated to valuing its employees and providing them with the best environment possible, wherever they are working in the world and whatever their position in the company.

“This recognition is a remarkable achievement for our company and is testament to how we live our values. Most importantly, this award is an acknowledgement of our fantastic 18,400 Associates in the region and how they work and collaborate together every day” declared Juan Martin, Regional President of Multisales Europe. “This is what makes Mars the unique and fantastic place that it is and gives us the pride and determination to continue to live up to this standard every day.”

This sentiment was echoed by Myriam Cohen-Welgryn, Regional President of Mars Petcare Europe, who accepted the award with Anne Geisert, General Manager of Wrigley for France and Belgium: “I am particularly proud of this award, because it shows what our employees think about our company. Mars has always put the well-being of its Associates at the heart of its priorities: this new achievement demonstrates this is the best thing to do”

Mars’ strategy is unique because the company is not only driven by the will to meet its employees’ needs. It is also driven by the will to build the company where everyone – from millennials to working parents to those at the end of their careers – feels good, has fun and has the opportunity to fulfil their potential.

A FAMILIAL CULTURE THAT PROMOTES OWNERSHIP

Because Mars is a family-owned business, all employees share a strong, unique and meaningful corporate culture. All employees are “Associates” and are guided by “Five Principles” (Quality, Responsibility, Mutuality, Efficiency and Freedom) which are the guide daily decisions and choices.

The company provides networking and leadership opportunities that go above and beyond the norm to nurture its Associates and Associates are encouraged and given the freedom to run the business as if it were their own.

AN UNRIVALLED WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Mars offers an outstanding working environment. Workplaces are open, collaborative and fun, with no divisive perks for leadership versus Associate positions. At Mars Petcare, Associates can even bring their pets to the office!

The company also develops programs such as flexible work, telecommuting schedules and compressed work weeks to maintain a healthy and balanced life.

This all adds up to a formula for a lasting, happy and rewarding career.

RECOGNISED FOR ITS COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT INITIATIVES

Mars puts its vast resources to great use in the community. Its charitable activities, all tied to its Mars Volunteering Program, seek to improve the communities it operates in, and ties its efforts to the products it makes. For example, employees at Mars UK working in their pet-care line volunteer in animal shelters, feeding dogs and cats, and donate thousands per year to adoption drives. Employees in the company’s food unit help pack and deliver donations through food banks, as well as host events that show children the importance of nutrition through fun games. In the company’s Wrigley unit, employees set up an immersive theater experience with a local dental school that showed children the importance of good dental health.
Mars’ charitable activities are closely connected with the products the company sells, inspiring employees and making them feel that what they do is more than just a job – nearly 9 in 10 employees say they feel good about the ways they contribute to the community. One associate had this to say about Mars’ charitable activity: “The genuine focus on doing the right thing for the environment and communities makes Mars a great place to work, and is seen a key measure of our success.”
