Grant F. Reid Joins Call for Climate Action in COVID-19 Recovery Plans

As debates on COVID-19 recovery packages ramp up in the coming weeks, Mars CEO Grant F. Reid and more than 100 CEOs of major multinational corporations signed a new statement calling on governments around the world to consider climate action as part of those initiatives.

“As Mars works to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, we remain 100% committed to accelerating climate action and doing business in a way that positively impacts people and our planet. It is critically important that investments in recovery keep in mind the clean, resilient and low-carbon world we want tomorrow,” he said. “We applaud government efforts to restore public health and economic stability, and we call on leaders to invest in a low-carbon, climate-resilient future as we rebuild.”

The letter, developed and jointly released by the members of the Science Based Targets initiative and UN Global Compact, calls for recovery action that is science-based, aligns with limiting global temperature rise to within 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit) of pre-industrial levels and future investments that shift us toward a resilient, low-carbon future and collaboration between business and governments.
