VCA Animal Care Center of Sonoma County cuts “green” ribbon celebrating local use of 100% renewable electricity

VCA, proudly part of Mars Veterinary Health, and the collaboration with Sonoma Clean Power highlights ongoing commitment to reducing CO2 emissions with every veterinary visit

ROHNERT PARK, California (March 28, 2024)VCA Animal Care Center of Sonoma County (VCA ACC)(Opens a new window) of VCA Animal Hospitals, the leader of comprehensive veterinary services and proudly part of Mars, Incorporated, together with Sonoma Clean Power (SCP)(Opens a new window), celebrated the use of SCP’s 100% renewable locally sourced electricity service, EverGreen(Opens a new window). The announcement came during a “green” ribbon-cutting event hosted by the Rohnert Park Chamber of Commerce.

As part of Mars Veterinary Health, VCA Animal Hospitals’ network of 1,000 community hospitals have proudly sourced 100% renewable electricity since 2022. This collaboration specifically supports local renewable electricity generation, offering VCA and the community an opportunity to benefit from 100% renewable, locally generated electricity 24/7. EverGreen(Opens a new window) utilizes solar energy during the day and natural geothermal sources when the sun sets, ensuring a continuous supply of renewable energy throughout the year, effectively eliminating nearly all greenhouse gas emissions associated with electricity production.

VCA ACC has been one of the region’s largest 24/7 emergency and specialty animal hospitals for 40 years, offering state-of-the-art solutions to address pet health needs. This announcement follows the release of the Mars Net Zero Roadmap, its innovative open-source action plan to accelerate action towards achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050.

“VCA ACC has been on an amazing sustainability journey and through partnerships, such as with SCP, we’re able to show what is possible when like-minded environmental trailblazers come together.” said Dr. Diccon Westworth, Veterinary Specialist at VCA Animal Care Center of Sonoma County(Opens a new window). “Today with SCP, we are actively leading the way for a more sustainable future for the veterinary profession, helping create a greener tomorrow that I’d proudly pass on to our grandchildren and their pets.”

“We’re thrilled to see VCA Animal Care Center of Sonoma County make the switch to EverGreen. By choosing renewable electricity, VCA joins other like-minded businesses, demonstrates its dedication to environmental stewardship, and sets an example for other businesses in the community,” said Scott Lawrence, SCP’s commercial accounts manager. “Sustainability is a marathon, not a sprint, and VCA’s Sonoma County Hospital is taking a meaningful step toward making a lasting, sustainable impact.”

The partnership between SCP and VCA Sonoma County underscores the collective effort to create a cleaner, healthier future for Sonoma County.
